Welcome to Coffee Scent. Before we have started online business, we used to roasted the coffee bean at home for private use for 6 to 7 years. Our first coffee roaster (left first picture) was a small home made roaster, 250g maximum batch capacity green beans and heating by a small compressor gas flame. It was fine to roasted coffee bean but have to works at indoor area, hardly to works at outdoor area.
After 3 years later, me and my wife decided to try different kind of coffee roaster for the better quality of coffee beans, which was roasting by hot air (left second picture), it made in Korea, 300g maximum batch capacity green beans. We found the result as what we want for better quality outcome. It also available to works at outdoor.
While the roasting quality stable solved, we started to try different flavor coffee beans all the time such as Ethiopian Yirgachaffe, Peru Bosque, Tanzania Heights, Honduras Liquidambar, Costa Rica Tarrazu and Nicaraguan La Bastilla. We also share our coffee beans with those same hobby love drinking coffee friends.
In the end of year 2018 the company I worked was preparing to migrate to Toowoomba. Me and my wife decided to work from home for starting coffee roasted beans online business. Also some of friends given suggestion either.
In year 2019, a friend Sam, he is a famous coffee trainer in Brisbane. He invited me to participate the Green Bean roasting competition. It was a good idea to show any champion medals in the website. Fortunately, that was my first time to participate and won two bronze medals (right second picture).
That two bronze medals beans were:
- Columbus blend – It offers sweetness, chocolate and nutty notes. It provides fresh and balanced acidity, good for pour-over filter.
- Across Ocean blend – It combines pronounced sweetness with honey notes citrus, cedar walnuts. Tasting of chocolate and caramel notes, balanced acidity finishing
My goal of business is to provide a fresh roasting coffee beans after received any orders from the customer and advice to be ready make a cup of coffee after two weeks time, also educated them to be finished the coffee bean within the fresh period.
A year later, we tried to purchase a bigger batch capacity coffee roaster start from 1 kg. We went to Taiwan for visiting some coffee roaster company. The products were good, only the disadvantage was voltage can’t suit for Australia. Therefore, We try to research any coffee roaster suit our business need from Australia.
Finally we got a new used electrical coffee roaster from a friend, the coffee roaster can batch capacity up to 2 kg (right first picture). It was a automatic coffee roaster and very easy to get used to. what we need to do is to setup the higher temperature for the coffee beans before start roasting. Sometimes the different coffee beans have different roasting higher temperature to reach the first crack point. Therefore, we have to make a lot of practices and made some notes for our SOP.
If you like to try my coffee beans, please feel free to contact me and also welcome to visit me.
